I love cherries!


I could eat cherries all day long every day of the week and still want more. Are you like me? It's not because they are good for us, it's that they are so delicious. Cherries are rich in antioxidants, such as anthocyanins, quercetin and ellagic acid. So why not add some to your grocery shopping during your next visit to the supermarket? Be aware, sweet cherries (Prunus avium L.) are a seasonal fruit that is now available in the fresh produce section, so hurry up, they will not be here for long (from July to mid-August).


Red cherries are not only good looking, they are also full of phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. In addition, they contain a cholesterol-lowering compound called 'beta-sitosterol' and melatonin, which was found to affect sleep patterns and has been promoted as an anti-aging supplement. The good news is that cherry juice retains the antioxidants and melatonin of the fruit, so it is a good alternative.


One cup of cherries provides approximately 90 Kilocalories and it is a good source of fiber (3 grams). They are also free of sodium and fat. What more do you want from a fruit? Since cherries do not ripen further after being picked, select firm, plump, shiny cherries with green stems. And enjoy your cherries.
